Everything about the Samsung Galaxy S22 & the Galaxy S series
Every year again! Samsung presented the new flagship models on the afternoon of February 9th, 2022. “Epic is the new standard” was the motto in preparation for the Galaxy Unpacked event, which usually showcases the new flagship series. In addition to the main players from the S series, the new Galaxy Tab S8 series was also “unpacked” for the first time.
Smaller Screen & More Powerful Processor
The Galaxy S22 comes in a pack of three. As was the case with the previous model, there are two alternatives to the standard model , the “ S22 Plus ” and “ S22 Ultra ” versions. Samsung’s latest flagship is equipped with a 6.1-inch, 120 Hz-capable Dynamic AMOLED display.
For the first time in the history of the Galaxy S series, Samsung has decided to reduce the display diagonal of the standard model compared to its predecessor. The S21 was slightly larger at 6.2 inches.
Processor, battery, camera that’s new
With the Exynos 2200 octa-core processor, the Galaxy S22 gets the world’s first 4 nm processor built into a Galaxy smartphone. When the battery is low, the 3,700 mAh battery can charge more than a third of the battery in just 20 minutes thanks to the 25 watt quick charge function and the optionally available quick charge adapter.
The image sensor of the triple camera has been improved and, in conjunction with the new processor, is now intended to ensure vivid, clear images that reveal colors and details even in the dark. The 8K video function offers the possibility of producing high-quality recordings.
Four different color variants
The Galaxy S22 appears in a rounded and high-quality design, where the customer can choose between the color variants Phantom Black, Phantom White, Pink Gold and Green. Thanks to the combination of the Armor Aluminum frame and the Gorilla® Glass Victus+ on the front and back, the Galaxy S22 is said to be the toughest Galaxy S model to date.
Galaxy S22 Plus: More screen, more battery
The differences in the Galaxy S22 Plus are manageable, but still noticeable. This gets a 6.6″ screen and a 4,500 mAh battery that has a 45 watt quick charge function.
Galaxy S22 Ultra gets an integrated S-Pen
The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a surprise to offer. For the first time, a Galaxy from the S series comes with an integrated S Pen and speaks a completely different design language than the other two models. The S-Pen should already be known to some of you from the Galaxy Note series, which the S22 Ultra is very similar to in terms of housing.
For example, when cutting an 8K video on the smartphone, the high precision of the S Pen helps enormously. The S-Pen can be stored in the built-in slot when not in use. The Galaxy S22 Ultra goes one step further in terms of screen size, battery and camera.
It gets a 6.8-inch screen and a 5,000 mAh battery, which can be charged with the 45 watt fast charging function. A fourth camera provides even more versatile recordings. Furthermore, the largest Galaxy S22 model does not have the color pink gold, which is replaced by burgundy.
The new models in comparison
Our model comparison compares the most important features of the new smartphones. The Galaxy S22 Ultra stands out the most from its partners here, because not only have the camera, battery and display been expanded, it is also equipped with an S-Pen and speaks a completely different design language that is reminiscent of the Galaxy Note series. This is also reflected in the price.
The development of the Galaxy S series
The graphic shows the development of the display diagonal of the standard models from the Galaxy S series. With the Galaxy S22, Samsung is breaking tradition and for the first time releasing a standard model that has a smaller display diagonal than its predecessor.
As we approach the present, the Galaxy S10 ‘s display continues to increase in size and there are more and more of them. The family of five from 2019 is called the S10, S10e, S10 plus and S10 Lite.
The features in a nutshell: the S10 has a 6.1-inch display, is becoming handier and has an additional camera. The 10e is a less powerful version of the S10. The S10 Plus is larger (6.4 inches) and has a better battery. S10 5G and S10 Lite are even bigger and offer 6.7-inch display diagonal, while the latter has an inferior screen resolution.
It’s getting serious: the Galaxy S20 connects to the S10, matching the year of release 2020. The display grows to 6.2 inches and that of the S20 Plus to 6.7 inches. There’s even more: The new S20 Ultra has a proud display diagonal of 6.9 inches. The 120 Hz display ensures even smoother animations when swiping through the pages or scrolling. The camera gets even better (108 megapixels, 100x zoom).
As in the previous year, the Galaxy S21 comes in a pack of three. S21 , S21 Plus & S21 Ultra . The S21 Ultra loses size, going from 6.8 to 6.9 inches. Since the 120 Hz in the S20 put too much strain on the battery, Samsung optimized the technology so that the smartphone adjusts the refresh rate according to needs: up when scrolling, down when standing. The memory card slot says goodbye again.
