What actually is… SEO? No one who has a website can avoid search engine optimization (SEO). We clarify what SEO is and why it is important.
What does SEO mean?
SEO stands for search engine optimization. There are several ways to optimize a website for search engines.
Why are search engines and SEO important?
The number of direct accesses to websites is declining. If you want to know something quickly these days, you google it. And then you want the right information to be displayed as soon as possible instead of searching for a long time.
That’s why it’s becoming increasingly important for website operators to be displayed on page 1 of the search results by search engines like Google.
In order for Google and Co. to classify a website as relevant for the search entered, the website and its content must be prepared in such a way that Google recognizes which topic it is about. Otherwise hardly any user will find your website through the search engine.
It is therefore important that you optimize your website for Google and Co. Then your website can also be found by users via a search engine.
How does Google search?
When new and updated websites are detected by Google, the search engine creates an index of all the words that are on the website. When a user enters a search query, this index is searched for matching content and Google returns the results.
The more terms on your website that match a user’s search query, the higher the likelihood that Google will list your website in search results.
When you search for a hairdresser in your city, you will be shown the search results that Google has determined are relevant to your query. The first search results are most likely to come from hairdressers who have frequently used the terms of your search query on your website.
What to do if search engines like Google can’t find my website?
If you have created a new website, you must first give the search engine some time. It can take several weeks for the search robots to register a new website for the first time. Only patience helps here. Check every few weeks to see if Google or another search engine is finding your website.
In addition, it is important that you make it clear on your website what it is about. On the one hand, this is of course important for your readers so that they can find their way around your website but it is also important for search engines such as Google to appear in the search results.
Measures for search engine optimization
Keywords that you define for your website play an important role in search engine optimization. These are also called keywords. If you equip your website with enough so-called keywords, you make it easier for the search engines to find your page with matching search terms.
You can use the keywords in various places on your website: in the headline, in the page titles, in the text, in the caption and in your domain name.
When you write copy for your website, think about it: What is the core content and what might readers be looking for in this topic? Use the keywords accordingly. But beware! Quantity does not equal quality. Despite search engine optimization, pay attention to a good writing style.
